Senior Vice Commander - Navy

Commander Roxann Werner is a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer who served in Desert Storm and the Persian Gulf and it is her tour-of-duty on the USS Cowpens (CG-63) which qualifies her as a Veteran of Foreign Wars. The USS Cowpens was the first ship to initiate the firing of missiles into Iraq during the Shock-n-Awe campaign in 2003. For this, Roxann was awarded the Expeditionary Service Medal.

Roxann was raised in Windsor and graduated from Red Lion Area Senior High School in 1985. She enlisted in the Navy in December 1985 and graduated from boot camp in Orlando, Florida in February 1986. She then attended Cryptology Technical training in Pensacola, Florida where she trained as a Morse Code analyst. Her subsequent duty stations include Misawa, Japan; Azores, Portugal; Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory;  Hawaii, NSA Fort Meade, Maryland; Seoul, Korea; Denver, Colorado; the USS Cowpens deployed from Yokosuka, Japan; and RAF Menwith Hill, Yorkshire, England. She retired after 21 ½ years of service which encompassed 9 duty stations; 7 of which were overseas.

During her membership at the Red Lion VFW Post 1446, she has served as the Post Commander, Post Senior Vice Commander and the Post Chaplain and most recently served as the Female Veteran State Committee Chairperson.
